Emily + Stew’s

DIY Peak District Wedding

Well that was my kind of wedding!!! Everyone mucking in and having an absolute ball. Emily and Stew decamped from their home on the Isle of Wight to have a Wedding in the middle of the Peak District. They wanted a venue where they could have as many people as possible stay with them and truly make an event of their special day so when they saw Hamps Hall was available they snapped it up. Everyone had their part to play from helping with the gourmet buffet lunch (I’ve honestly not seen another buffet like it), helping suppliers set up and ferrying bits and bobs about - including picking up guests. The day was full of colour, laughter and the best fish and chips van ever: The English Indian - delicious!

Situated in the peak district Hamps Hall and Barn was perfect for family traveling from Chester and also had ample space for the strong contingent coming from the Isle of Wight.  The thought Emily and Stew, together with their families put into everything was incredible and it had beautiful results – they even named the jams and marmalade which were set out for breakfast when I arrived at 9 am to an already bustling hall. The bride opted for groomsmen; her two best palls who were a giggle a minute especially when it came to helping out with the tit tape!

Despite their concerns Emily and Stew were easy to capture, they specifically wanted unposed, documentary-style photos that captured the feel of their day, so I knew immediately that we’d be a perfect fit for each other. They told me that that they were self-conscious and awkward when a camera was around so I knew my approach would be ideal to help them relax and feel themselves. My aim is always to capture a couples personality and zest for life and getting to know Emily and Stew, and others like them is something before anything else is key and what I really enjoy about my job.

Being told by a couple of guests that I was “like one of them, but with a camera” was simply the best complement. I absolutely LOVE joining in and becoming part of the wedding crew, and doing so means I can capture how the day felt, not just what it looked like.

It’s all about capturing the vibe of the day and getting in amongst it which was so easy to do with all of Emily and Stew’s friends and family who were all so welcoming, especially when they were also all mucking in with the arrangements too.
