DUST IF YOU MUST

by Rose Milligan

Dust if you must, but wouldn’t it be better
To paint a picture, or write a letter,
Bake a cake, or plant a seed;
Ponder the difference between want and need?

Dust if you must, but there’s not much time,
With rivers to swim, and mountains to climb;
Music to hear, and books to read;
Friends to cherish, and life to lead.

Dust if you must, but the world’s out there
With the sun in your eyes, and the wind in your hair;
A flutter of snow, a shower of rain,
This day will not come around again.

Dust if you must, but bear in mind,
Old age will come and it’s not kind.
And when you go (and go you must)
You, yourself, will make more dust.

I was recently reminded of this beautiful poem by Rose Milligan by a mum friend of mine. It was first introduced to me by my Grandma who very much lived her life with the wind in her hair. Not only did she literally throw herself into very boisterous games of basket ball with me and my brother (to the point of injury on all parts) she also used to cartwheel round the garden well into her 70’s! It’s been a while since I’ve cartwheeled and I’m only in my 30’s hats off to you Peggy, you are and will always be such a role model for me!!!

It was such a nice reminder, not only of the lovely words penned by Rose in 1998 but also of my beloved Grandma and the ethos by which she lived her life! And on that note I thought I’d give you all a little flavour of some of the things we have been doing recently…..

We had fun checking out the Cheshire Show.

Especially the tractors which were a massive hit.

Would you just look at that wonky pointing, isn’t it just blooming adorable, and yes I know I’m biased but still!!

Toddler Deer Hunting.

Surprisingly this old fellow didn’t run off despite all the excited toddler whooping.

…and then a bit of painting!

Can you tell we were inspired by the Olympic Rings! No even I can’t see it now.

Now get out there and enjoy the summer everyone!

Make it yours.
